The Furries are back in Pittsburgh.

And if you're wondering just how popular the anthropomorphic animal characters are, just ask John Cole, the Public Outreach Director for Anthrocon.

He tells the Big K Morning Show that when they finally announced the convention dates for Pittsburgh, the hotel rooms 11,000 of them, booked up in minutes.

“We didn’t expect that, we had to reach out to additional hotels,” said Cole. Right now, Anthrocon is going to be hosting attendees in 22 hotels Downtown.”

Six shuttle buses will be transporting visitors around town.

It’s been nearly 20 years for Anthrocon that now calls Pittsburgh home for their annual convention.

And it’s a big money maker for the area. $17.4 million in direct spending could be pumped into the local economy.

Anthrocon Dr. Sam Conway said during a news conference on Wednesday that “Pittsburgh has always been a furry city, you just didn’t realize it until we showed up.”

“I do believe we were made for each other,” added Dr. Conway.
