PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - After 8 straight college players were drafted in the 2024 MLB draft, the Pittsburgh Pirates decided to switch it up.

They selected shortstop Konnor Griffin from Jackson Prep High School in Jackson Mississippi.

Griffin was named Gatorade's National High School Player of the Year. He has a big league frame at 6 foot 4 and 215 lbs.

MLB.com scout reports say, "he possesses five-tool potential. Griffin also has well-above-average speed, giving him 30-30 upside."

In his 43 games he played in 2024 at Jackson Prep, he finished with a .599 batting average, 66 hits, 9 home runs, 76 runs scored, 39 RBIs and 87 stolen bases.

Griffin was also a great pitcher in high school, with a 10-0 record, a 0.72 ERA and 107 strikeouts. His fastball reached up to 97 mph.

According to Manny Randhawa of MLB.com
"He is the top-ranked high school prospect in the nation, per MLB Pipeline, and ranked as the No. 9 overall Draft prospect in 2024. He became the first baseball player in Mississippi history to be named the Gatorade National Player of the Year."

Griffin was committed to go to LSU.
