ESPN insider believes Pittsburgh Steelers could look for QB help again in 2025

The Pittsburgh Steelers have their game plan for the 2024 season with Russell Wilson – or maybe Justin Fields – at the helm of the offense, but beyond that, the team’s strategy is a mystery. It’s possible that after having both veterans on one-year deals, they opt to move on with the hope of drafting their future franchise quarterback in 2025. According to NFL insider Dan Graziano, a refresh at quarterback in 2025 is on the table.

“Not an overreaction. Look, Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, they have reason to believe, especially at the prices they got them, that it’s worth a shot,” Graziano said on GetUp on Monday. “However, it’s also possible, given what we’ve seen the last couple of years, that they get to the end of the season in Pittsburgh and neither of these guys is the long-term answer and they do something completely different next spring.”

“Each has signed for just this coming season, each has a lot to prove, and if neither proves it, then yes, the Steelers will be looking for another new quarterback next year,” he added.

Despite some investments already made into Wilson and Fields, the team has proven they’ll cut bait if needed.

After former first-rounder Kenny Pickett hurt his ankle in Week 13 and needed surgery, the team turned to Mason Rudolph. Although Pickett was active by Week 18, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin kept Rudolph as the starter.

In March, they traded Pickett and a fourth-round draft pick to the Eagles, swapping their former starter for a third-rounder in April’s draft and two seventh-rounders for next year. The Steelers also declined to sign Rudolph and Mitch Trubisky, completing a total overhaul of the quarterback room. Pittsburgh then signed Russell Wilson in free agency and traded for Justin Fields from the Bears. Whether they remain in play in 2025, sounds like it’s completely up to their performance.

Steelers RB Najee Harris excited about new QB additions

Steelers running back Najee Harris is among the many players excited about the refresh at quarterback. The former first-rounder spoke briefly last week about how he’s feeling heading into the 2024 season and he praised the team’s new additions.

“Feeling good,” Harris said, via DAZN Boxing. “We did good this offseason. Obviously, we picked up our two quarterbacks, so we’re excited about it. We think we’re going to have a lot of good things happening this year.”

The Steelers notched another season above .500 and signed Tomlin to an extension this offseason, but the question remains, how far can Wilson, or Fields, take the team in 2024.
