Best Virginia vs. Zoo Crew: Game time, stream info, more for TBT Pittsburgh Regional

A rivalry matchup in TBT action is nothing new for Best Virginia. But this franchise of former Mountaineers hasn’t played in this rivalry game yet.

The hoops edition of the Backyard Brawl gets a summer chapter, as for the first time, men’s basketball players from West Virginia University and Pitt will meet on the hardwood in July on Monday.

One hundred and ninety times men’s basketball teams from West Virginia University and Pitt have clashed on the hardwood. WVU has prevailed victorious in 101 meetings. However, all of those matchups were played during the college basketball season.

This summer’s new blockbuster is the Backyard Brawl, TBT style.

Best Virginia cruised to a 25-point victory over Brotherly Love in its TBT opener Saturday afternoon. Wesley Harris led a balanced scoring attack with 15 points. Four BV players landed in double-figures. Teyvon Myers recorded 13 assists, the second-most in a single game in TBT history. The group of former Mountaineers led by as many as 32 points, hit 14 threes, and finished +14 in the rebounding department, as well.

Zoo Crew did not have it so easy in its TBT opener. The second-seeded Panthers alumni group had to scratch and claw its way to a three-point win over seventh-seeded Million $ Worth of Game. Former Pitt forward Mike Young tallied 24 points and fellow Pitt alumnus Nike Sibande added 21 points. Zoo Crew shot nearly 60 percent from the floor as a unit.

If the two teams’ first games of the Pittsburgh Regional are indicative of what fans could see on Monday, the expectation should be for the game to be high-scoring and for the three-balls to be flying.

Both teams hit 14 treys in their TBT opener. Best Virginia made 14 of 39 attempts, while Zoo Crew sank 14 of 32 shots from beyond the arc. Five of Zoo Crews’ nine players finished in double-figures Saturday. However, all 10 players scored at least five points for Best Virginia.

Zoo Crew was outscored by its opening-round opponent in the second half.

Monday’s contest will be streamed exclusively on TBT Live. The winner of the rivalry clash will meet the winner of top-seeded Stars of Storrs (UConn) and fifth-seeded Happy Valley Hoopers (Penn State) in the regional title game on Wednesday.

Best Virginia aims to advance to a regional title game for the second time in the last three summers.
