Steelers' former WR is seemingly still salty about how things ended after aggressive take on Pittsburgh's QBs

There was a time a couple of decades ago (yes it's been that long) that Pittsburgh Steelers WR Plaxico Burress was tearing up defenses in the black and gold.

But the NFL is a business in the end, and the separation between Burress and the Steelers worked out for both parties as Pittsburgh and Burress would win Super Bowls within years of his departure.

But whether it was Burress being candid, or still a little salty about how things ended, it's safe to say he's bearish on the Steelers and their QBs in 2024 and beyond.

    Burress not big on Fields-Wilson

“I just don’t know what the Steelers are gonna do moving forward from a franchise quarterbacking standpoint,” Burress said on the Craig Carton Show . “I really think that they are looking for a successor after this season. I just don’t see either Russell Wilson or Justin Fields being a future quarterback for the Steelers.”

Pittsburgh could very well be in the QB market come January if things don't go to plan. It can't be forgotten that like many players on the Steelers roster , both Fields and Wilson approach 2024 on one year, prove it deals.

That all but ensures that at least one of them, if not both will be on different teams heading into 2025. The question is, who would Pittsburgh opt to keep around?

Age and potential point to Justin Fields, who at only 25 years old and with talent that most QBs dream of, can become Pittsburgh's franchise QB for the next decade should he develop.

But it's hard to develop when you're sitting on the bench , something that is likely despite the prevailing narrative of a QB competition going on in Pittsburgh.

With training camp officially kicking off on Thursday, July 25th, Wilson is set to receive the majority of the reps, meaning it's likely too late for Fields to make a push for the starting role .

"Zero. I just don't think there's enough time for that," The Athletic's Mark Kaboly told 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh when asked about the chances Justin Fields starts Week 1. "It's more than just being a quarterback. It's being a leader, taking those guys to dinner. It's being that type of leader that they haven't had in a number of years now. So I don't worry about Justin Fields right now. I think you worry about him next year."

We'll see if Pittsburgh is worrying about Fields and or Russell at all after 2024.
