Russell Wilson might have a favorite Steelers WR behind George Pickens

The Pittsburgh Steelers arrived at training camp on Wednesday, which also gave the media the opportunity to speak with projected starting quarterback, Russell Wilson, who touched on the team's wide receivers.

And the first name he mentioned after top wideout George Pickens when asked about his pass-catchers was third-year wide receiver, Calvin Austin III.

"I think Calvin Austin has been amazing all offseason," Wilson said . "Just watching his speed, his ability to get in and out of routes. Van Jefferson, his diligence. I've spent a lot of time with these guys in the offseason throwing and guys like Quez Watkins, Scotty Miller, there's so many guys I'm excited for."

"I'm excited for Roman Wilson and to see what he can do," he added. "I think he's a guy who's been a champion in college. It's one thing to do it at the highest level in college. It's another to do it in the NFL. And, I think he has the mentality to do it every day."

What's abundantly clear there is Wilson giving just a bit more praise to Austin than he did the others, which could signal that the veteran quarterback has his eye on the Memphis product more than them.

Austin's first season was cut short due to injury, and his sophomore campaign was a quiet one, as he reeled in just 17 catches for 180 yards and one touchdown.

But considering the lackluster (to say the least) situation Pittsburgh has at receiver going into training camp, it's very conceivable that Austin could land himself a big role in 2024.
