Ex-NFL QB makes prediction about Justin Fields starting after just 1 one pass

The toughest decision for Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin this offseason is choosing their starting quarterback.

Do they opt for the safer pick in veteran Russell Wilson or take a leap of faith in the dual-threat Justin Fields? Well, after just a single training camp highlight, ex-NFL quarterback Chase Daniel made his decision on the matter.

"I promise you by October Justin Fields will be leading the Steelers. Bookmark it," Daniel wrote.

Daniel, who last played with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2022, is overreacting to the impressive deep-ball pass. But that doesn't invalidate his take on Fields taking over before the midway point of the regular season.

Pittsburgh faces respectable opponents in the Atlanta Falcons, Chargers, and Indianapolis Colts within the first four weeks. Wilson earning the starting job in training camp doesn't earn him much job security, as the Steelers could start the season with a 1-3 record (assuming they defeat his former Denver Broncos in Week 2).

It would be in the coaching staff's best interest at that point to at least allow Fields a chance to prove himself worthy against the Super Bowl-contending Dallas Cowboys. A Week 5 battle against Micah Parsons and Co. is a potential recipe for disaster, but could show what he's truly made of.
