LATROBE, PA (93.7 The Fan) – A Pro Football Hall of Famer, a former Steelers sack leader, an unheralded leader of the defense and the man who sparked a Super Bowl XL win all named as new members of the Steelers Hall of Honor on Saturday at St. Vincent College.

    Dick LeBeau

If anyone was a matter of time to be honored by the Steelers, it was LeBeau. The Steelers defensive coordinator two different times led a pair of Super Bowl championships. In his 13 years as Steelers defensive coordinator, 11 times he had a top 10 defense. The inventor of the zone blitz is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and coached three others with gold jackets.

    Jason Gildon

At one time the Steelers third-round pick in 1994 was the Steelers all-time sack leader, he’s since been passed by a couple, but had a string of seven seasons where he started every game. In 2000, Gildon had 13.5 sacks and followed it the next year by 12 sacks. He finished with 77 in his Steelers career with three touchdowns, 15 forced fumbles, a pair of interceptions to go with 58 tackles for loss and 507 tackles (378 solo). In the 2001 postseason, three sacks, three tackles for loss and five passes defended.

    Willie Parker

An undrafted free agent with a 75-yard touchdown run that led to a franchise’s fifth Super Bowl title. He made his mark during training camp and then proved that it was more than just a camp phenom. Parker had three, 1,000-yard seasons highlighted by 2006 rushing for 1,494 yards, 13 touchdowns earning the first of two Pro Bowl selections. Parker remains the team’s third all-time leading rusher while playing only six seasons with 5,378 rushing yards and 24 touchdowns. He also is the only Steelers tailback to have two, two-hundred yard games in the same season.

    Casey Hampton

Talk to members of the great Steelers defenses in the 2000s and they credit what Hampton did in the middle to allow playmakers to make plays. The 2001 first-round pick out of Texas played 173 games with the Steelers making the Pro Bowl five times while finishing with 398 tackles, 39 tackles for loss, nine sacks, 12 quarterback hits and a pair of Super Bowl rings. The nose tackle played in 16 playoff games with 33 tackles and a forced fumble and was voted team MVP in 2005.

There are now 57 players, coaches and contributors in the Steelers Hall of Honor. These four will be honored in an induction ceremony on Saturday, December 7 at Acrisure Stadium and the next day be introduced to the fans during the Steelers-Browns game on December 8.
