    Pirates trade away young starting pitcher

    PITTSBURGH, Pa. (WKBN) – The Pittsburgh Pirates have officially traded starting pitcher Quinn Priester to the Boston Red Sox.

    In exchange, the Pirates receive infield prospect Nick Yorke.

    Yorke has played this season at both Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester. At both levels, he is batting a combined .278 with 10 home runs and 46 RBIs.

    He was rated as Boston’s No. 6 overall prospect, and will report to Triple-A Indianapolis.

    “Nick has been a strong offensive performer and versatile defender in the minor leagues,” Pirates General Manager Ben Cherington said. “We are excited to add him to our upper level position player group.”

    Yorke was originally selected 17th overall by the Red Sox in the 2020 MLB draft.

    The 23-year-old Priester has posted a record of 2-6 with a 5.04 ERA in 10 appearances. He likewise appeared in 10 games last season and owns a career record of 5-9 with a 6.46 ERA.
