WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – The FBI says former President Donald Trump has agreed to do a victim interview, as it investigates the assassination attempt on the former president’s life.

“We want to get his perspective on what he observed,” Pittsburgh Special Agent in Charge Kevin Rojek said.

Rojek said this is standard protocol. The agency also revealed new details on the shooter, including Thomas Crooks’ internet searches.

“He also made searches related to power plants, mass shooting events, information on improvised explosive devices, and the attempted assassination of a Slovakian prime minister earlier this year,” Rojek said.

In addition to the AR-15, Crooks had two explosives in his car that did not go off.

“Both IEDs recovered from the subject’s vehicle did not explode adjacent to the site of the rally due to the receivers both being in the off position,” Rojek said.

Despite hundreds of interviews, the FBI has still not identified a motive for the shooter.

“We believe the subject made significant efforts to conceal his activities. Additionally, we believe his actions also show careful planning ahead of the campaign rally,” Rojek said.

However, investigators have managed to paint a picture of the kind of person Crooks was.

“We do still believe that he was a loner,” Rojek said. “The primary social circle is his family. We have identified only a couple people who we would call his friends. And most of those contacts were in fact dated,” Rojek said.

The FBI says his parents have cooperated with the investigation and had no knowledge of Crooks’ plans.
