Former Steelers DB makes bold prediction for Pittsburgh's 2024 season

With Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson sidelined due to injury early on in training camp, momentum continues to build for quarterback Justin Fields getting the starting job, at least in the media.

This is largely because Fields is the more exciting option thanks to his skillset, while Wilson is the more conservative option at this stage in his career.

Former Steelers defensive back Ryan Clark is among those in the media who think Fields is the better option. In fact, Clark shared on SportsCenter his belief that the young signal-caller can lead Pittsburgh to the playoffs in 2024.

"Justin Fields is going to lead the Pittsburgh Steelers to the playoffs, that's right," Clark exclaimed. "That means first he has to become the starter, which he is. Then, when he becomes the starter, he has to get to the playoffs, which he will. Mike T always fields a competent, competitive team, and now you're going to have a dynamic playmaker at quarterback."

Fields has made the most of his opportunity with Wilson out and is exceeding expectations thus far. Offensive coordinator Arthur Smith is among those impressed with the 25-year-old.

“You’re changing language on guys — especially a young player, he’s been in a couple systems now,” Smith said, per Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette . “So we’re working through all that. But I’ve seen him, he’s really operating the offense."

"I think Justin has done a fantastic job, and we're getting to know him," Smith added. “He’s a dangerous football player with the ball in his hands."

Fields will undoubtedly need to work harder than ever before to surpass Wilson for the starting job, but the upside is there for a strong campaign.
