Hurdy-gurdy musician back at WAW July 25
The hurdy-hurdy is a very complex instrument. According to Wiscasset’s Laurie Rousseau, a hurdy-gurdy performer, it has components of the violin, guitar, piano and bagpipe. Rousseau had been playing early music for almost two decades when she first heard the hurdy-gurdy while listening to some recorded early music. Through a process of elimination, she determined that the unfamiliar sound was a hurdy-gurdy. Fascinated by its history dating back to the 14th century, and popular in the 18th century court of Louis XV, she ordered an Elizabethan model for herself.
Teen found dead in the road in Maine after report of shots fired
Local and state police are investigating the death of a 17-year-old in Lewiston, Maine, on Sunday night. Maine State Police said their Major Crimes Unit is assisting Lewiston police with the death investigation. They said around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, Lewiston police received a 911 call reporting shots fire on Rideout Avenue. When they arrived they found a male dead in the road.
Brett Meservey scores first MRS victory at Wiscasset Speedway
After battling the weather for nearly a month, Wiscasset Speedway was finally able to get in a full program on Saturday night as they hosted all Group 1 divisions plus the visiting Milton CAT Modified Racing Series. It was also the first Fan Appreciation night of the season and drivers participated in an on-track autograph session prior to the start of the racing action.
