Pittston Area had its Little League Softball season come to an end with consecutive losses to begin the Pennsylvania 8-10-year-old state tournament at St. Marys.

The team finished tied for seventh in the state after capturing District 16 and Section 5 Tournament titles.

    Selinsgrove 12, Pittston Area 4

Brianna Gray quieted a Pittston Area rally and Selinsgrove broke away with five runs in the sixth inning of Monday’s elimination bracket game.

Gray, who drove in the game’s first run, took over in the circle in the fourth after Pittston Area had already scored four times to cut a 7-0 deficit to 7-4.

Jerlyne Matta and Andrea Colon each had RBI triples in the fourth for Pittston.

In between, Natalie Lambert singled in Matta, putting her in position to score on Colon’s triple.

    Matta finished 3-fof-3.

Bailey Barge, Chloe Shemory and Roz Fern each drove in two runs for Selinsgrove.

    Middletown 12, Pittston Area 2

Middletown rode a seven-run first inning to a four-inning victory in the opening round of the state tournament July 21.

Pittston Area had just one hit prior to scoring both its runs in the top of the fourth. Middletown then responded with the one run it needed to end the game on the 10-run rule.

Jerlyne Matta started the Pittston Area fourth with a single.

Andrea Colon tripled to break the shutout and kept on running, scoring on an error.
