Woman charged after puppies found in dumpsters
BLAKELY, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) β A woman was charged after police found puppies in dumpsters at Timber Falls after receiving a report from a neighbor. Piano students present spring recital
Piano students of Mary Jane Kotansky, Mountain Top piano instructor, presented their spring piano recitals at The First Welsh Baptist Church in Plymouth on Saturday, May 4, and Sunday, May 5. Students performed a variety of pieces, which included classical, jazz, traditional, sacred, popular and classic rock. Jake Marich, member of the 2024 Crestwood High School graduating class, was honored at the recital. Also recognized during the recital were students who participated in the 2024 Cynonfardd Eisteddfod held on Saturday, April 27 in Edwardsville.
Rotary Club farmers market underway
The annual Rotary Club of Mountain top Farmers Market got underway on June 30 at Crestwood High School parking lot. Vendors offered a variety of fruits and vegetables, sweets, honey, crafts, information and some smoked cheese.

Johnson College is holding a Transfer Day on Thursday, July 31, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at its Scranton and Hazleton campuses. Pennsylvania Universities Co-Host Cyber Camp for High Schoolers
(TNS) β The Sul Ross State University Homeland Security and Criminal Justice Department, in partnership with the University of Scranton-Pennsylvania, offered a Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Investigation Camp for area high school students in Alpine July 9-11. Through hands-on, active learning experiences and lessons by both university professors and professionals working in the field of cyber intelligence and cybersecurity, 13 students from Alpine, Fort Davis, Marfa, Del Rio, Presidio, Terlingua and students from Scranton schools, with whom the Alpine campers collaborated, had a unique opportunity to explore possible career paths in this emerging, dynamic and in-demand sector.
19th Annual Scranton Jazz Festival
All of Downtown Scranton will serve as center stage for an award-winning music festival as the 19th Annual Scranton Jazz Festival returns to the Electric City, Friday through Sunday, August 2 through 4. The festival is made possible through partnerships with Blu Elefante Events, PA Jazz Alliance Inc., Lackawanna County Visitors Bureau, First Friday Scranton, Lackawanna County, the City of Scranton, and Scranton Tomorrow, and with the generous support of sponsors and media partners.
NEPA man arrested for attacking police officer
An Edwardsville man was arrested after punching and pushing a police officer down the stairs, According to police. Joshua Hall faces aggravated assault charges after a disturbance was reported in his home on Monday afternoon. Hall then allegedly lunged at the police officer, punching her in the face, and pushing her down a flight of stairs, before fleeing on foot. Hall was later arrested by Kingston and Plymouth officers. The officer was transported to Wilkes-Barre General Hospital for the injuries to the left side of her face and her right knee. Hall was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, harassment, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and evading arrest, and is being held without bail.

Bartlow (26), Paul E. Bartlow Jr. (55) and Benjamin Bartlow (25) on multiple charges including a felony charge of riot/intent to commit a felony.
