Peacocks explore NJ couples porch while on vacation: ‘A rare event’

VOORHEES, N.J. (PIX11) – A New Jersey couple was on vacation when they received an alert on their Ring camera. It was not a robber or neighbor knocking on their door but a group of peacocks exploring their porch.

“This is definitely not a normal occurrence,” according to Voorhees resident Scott. “My wife and I were in complete shock. We’ve seen peacocks before, but never in such numbers. Previously, we had one peacock on our roof, but that was a rare event. When I saw it [the video], I turned to her and said, ‘You’re not going to believe this!'”

A group of colorful birds, known as a muster or peafowl, was seen wandering around their porch. The video shows their necks bobbing up and down, showcasing their crimson blue and light green napes as their crowns shook on the tops of their heads.

In the minute-long video, some of the birds even waddled to explore around the couple’s car.

Scott was very surprised by the video, and the birds had been on their porch for quite some time.

“Both the green peacock and blue peacock follow a routine every day. They spend their mornings in small groups foraging on the ground for food,” read a post by “Nature,” a show produced by the Public Broadcasting Service . “During the non-breeding season, these are usually groups of all peacocks or all peahens, but during the breeding season, there are harem groups of one peacock and several peahens or all bachelors.”

According to Scott, the colorful birds have not returned to their New Jersey home since the video was captured.
