Free haircuts offered at Queens barber shop ahead of back-to-school season

LONG ISLAND CITY, Queens (PIX11) — A barber shop in Queens will offer free haircuts on Monday, just in time for back to school.

Otis and Finn Barbershop at 11-16 44th Ave. will offer haircuts, beard trims, hot towel shaves and straight razor shaves from their licensed apprentices from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., the shop told PIX11 News Thursday.

“Our apprentice barbers are all licensed master barbers and all cuts will be supervised by our senior barbers. All hairstyles and textures welcome,” the shop’s website said. “As with all our events, there will be music, some free beverages and snacks. People are always welcome to stop by just to check out the space, even if they don’t need a service.”

Operations Manager Sam Johnson said the shop aims to provide the community with a “no-cost grooming opportunity” at an expensive time of year.

“The reason that we’re doing it right now is because the lead up to Labor Day and the holidays that precede that are kind of a stressful time for a lot of folks, both timewise and financially,” said Johnson. “It’s the time of the year when people are returning to the office, school or college. People are coming or going on holidays.

The shop will take walk-ins but asks people to make an appointment here .
