HOBOKEN, N.J. (PIX11) — Hudson County officials provided an update to PIX11 News Friday about the Park Avenue paving project, which made headlines last week when workers accidentally paved over sump pumps and curbs.

Tom Malavasi, the engineer for Hudson County, said repair work will begin on Tuesday and should be done by the end of next week.

“The contractor called for a utility mark-out, which is required in New Jersey before you dig,” explained Malavasi. “That was done this week. They’re scheduled to come back Tuesday to start work.”

The repair work entails building up roughly 20 parts of the sidewalk along Park Avenue to recreate a curb. Malavasi said a county inspector will oversee the repair work.

Longtime Park Avenue resident Amanda Morrison said the construction mistake left her with water in the entryway of her basement apartment for the very first time.

“My current apartment didn’t even have issues during Hurricane Sandy and I – all of a sudden – am getting water pooled up outside my apartment and in my doorway,” said Morrison.

Morrison said she has returned home twice in the last week to find the doormat in her entryway soaking wet. “It was probably only days after they finished it where I already had water in my doorway,” said Morrison.

Morrison hopes the problem is fixed before a more serious rainstorm hits Hoboken.
“My apartment never had water, and I don’t want it to start,” said Morrison.
