Long Island boy made a Met for a day after leukemia battle

QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) — A Long Island boy who survived a battle with leukemia signed a one-day contract with the New York Mets on Tuesday.

Eight-year-old Mason Maier got to take the field for pregame warmups after he signed an honorary contract with the Mets before the team’s game at Citi Field.

Mason’s Mets journey started back in April at spring training in Florida when he got to practice with his favorite player, Mets first baseman Pete Alonso.

Mason has come so far from June of 2019 when he began to suffer fevers. The doctors at Northwell Health’s Cohen Children’s Medical Center diagnosed him with leukemia. After three years of chemotherapy, Mason has been in remission for a year.

Mason is now a happy boy who loves school, his friends and the Mets. His parents are thrilled.

Mason predicts the Mets will make the playoffs this year.
