NEWCASTLE – Mandatory evacuations were issued after two fires broke out in Placer County on Friday evening.

    Newcastle

The Lehi Fire was burning near Lehi Lane and was spreading at a moderate rate, Cal Fire Nevada-Yuba-Placer Unit said. It burned about nine acres and one structure was involved before crews stopped the forward spread.

Evacuation orders for Winter Snow Court, Autumn Wind Court and Summer Star Way were downgraded to warnings at 9 p.m. Lehi Lane remains in an evacuation order.

The evacuation warnings for the areas south and east of Ridge Road to Taylor Road, and north and east of Lincoln Newcastle Highway at Skyview to Taylor Road were lifted at 9 p.m.

Cal Fire said the fire was started by someone mowing a lawn in dry grass.

    Weimar Cross

Another fire was burning in the area of Interstate 80 at Weimar Cross.

This fire forced evacuations on Canyon Way north of I-80, including Heavenly View and Oak Ridge. By 7:15 p.m., all evacuation orders were downgraded to warnings.

Canyon Way was closed from Weimar Cross to Yankee Jims Road but has since reopened.

The Placer Hills Fire Protection District said the fire has burned three acres.
