    Crews tackle lightning-sparked fire in Cibola National Forest

    ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The U.S. Forest Service is tackling a fire in the Sandia Ranger District south of Placitas, New Mexico. They say lightning caused the fire.

    The New Mexico Forestry Division initially tackled the fire. But they disengaged due to weather issues. Now the Forest Service is handling the task.

    • Start Date : June 27, 2024
    • Location : Sandia Mountain Wilderness south of Placitas in the north area of the Sandia Ranger District on the Cibola National Forest within Sandoval County, New Mexico.
    • Size : 0.1 acres
    • Contained : 0%
    • Response : USFS Engines 652, 651 and 6123. Additional resources have been ordered to include a type 2 helicopter with repel unit.
    • Structures Burned : None
    • Cause of Fire : Lightning
    • Evacuations : None
