Plainfield State Representative Harry Benton is working with lawmakers from across the country on finding ways to communicate about policy and keep it non-partisan. During an event he recently attended at the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business, 50 lawmakers from across the country gathered to discuss, debate, and learn the essential elements of leadership in a representative democracy.

First Bird and Additional Cases of Mosquitoes with West Nile Virus Detected in Will County. The Will County Health Department’s Environmental Health division announced that additional batches of mosquitoes and a dead bird have tested positive for West Nile virus [WNV]. Mosquitoes that tested positive for WNV have been found in Joliet, Homer Glen, Shorewood and Lockport. A dead bird that tested positive for WNV was found in Crest Hill. Will County residents are reminded to protect themselves from mosquito bites and mosquito-borne diseases.
Chemical release from Will County plant prompts large emergency response
The release of a volatile chemical led to a large emergency response on Saturday at a plant in unincorporated Will County, authorities said. At around 11:38 a.m., the Channahon Fire Protection District was called to INEOS Styrenics for a hazardous material incident, the fire district said in a news release. Fire crews arrived to facility employees attempting to cool a large container of approximately 5,000 gallons of styrene. Styrene is a liquid used to create polystyrene, a solid plastic.

An office manager from a medical equipment boutique in suburban Chicago has been hit with federal healthcare fraud charges. The indictment alleges Judy Strzelecki, from Downers Grove, Illinois, partook in a fraudulent billing scheme focused on private insurers, capitalizing on services purportedly offered to cancer survivors and women with chronic conditions. Citing a piece from the U.S. Attorney's Office, Northern District of Illinois, Strzelecki allegedly submitted false insurance claims for items including breast prostheses and compression garments through A Woman's Place LLC, where she served as office manager.
