PLAINFIELD, NJ — Starting Tuesday last week, the Plainfield Police Department began to encourage Plainfield residents to lock their cars and hide items from view.

"Lock your cars after exiting," reads the statement that has been posted on the city's Facebook page two more times since the initial warning. "When leaving vehicles, please place all items out of view. We’re experiencing an uptick in the theft of personal items from unlocked vehicles, and we want to keep your property safe."
