Maria W. Faust Sonnet Contest celebration July 27
The official end to the annual Maria W. Faust Sonnet Contest is the announcement of the winners, a fun celebration hosted in person and online. The public is invited to attend on Saturday, July 27, at 11 a.m. at the Winona County History Center. It can also be viewed online on the Maria W. Faust Sonnet Contest’s Facebook page. The program will be led by emcee Rob Thomas, with winning sonnets being read either over Zoom by the winning poets or in person by the Great River Shakespeare Festival’s Doug Scholz-Carlson and the contest’s judges. Refreshments from the Blue Heron Coffeehouse will be provided at this free event. The winning sonnets will then be published on the website: sonnetcontest.org.
WSU football adds two coaches to staff
WINONA, Minn. - Winona State University head football coach Brian Bergstrom has announced the addition of two new coaches to the WSU football coaching staff. Justin Lotz and Adam Posateri have joined Bergstrom and the Warrior program. Lotz was most recently on staff at Roosevelt University in Chicago, Ill. and Posateri comes to WSU from Nebraska Wesleyan In Lotz's time at Roosevelt University, he served as defensive line coach and defensive backs coach. Lotz responsibilities also included running scout team and organizing practice plans, assisting the strength and conditioning coach, and assisting the director of football operations. Community Not Cages hosts potluck July 30
On July 30, Community Not Cages will host a summer community potluck outside at the East End Rec Center from 5:30-7 p.m. It will include pizza, an art table for kids, music by Afflatus with an ASL interpreter, drumming, and community speakers about solidarity and resources.

WSU women's golf earns 2023-24 WGCA All-Scholar Team GPA Award
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – The Winona State University women's golf team has been named a 2023-24 WGCA All-Scholar Team GPA Award winner. The Warriors ranked ninth in all of NCAA Division II with a 3.80 team GPA. The University of Sioux Falls was the only other Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference team that received the honor, coming in 10th overall.
