PLAINVILLE, Conn. (WTNH) – Hundreds came out in the heat Sunday morning in Plainville to support the Petit Family Foundation’s 17th annual Road Race.

The annual race is in honor of Jennifer, Hayley and Michaela Petit who were killed in a 2007 home invasion. Since 2008 the surviving member of the Petit family, Dr. William Petit, and two of his friends have been organizing the road race to raise funds for people impacted by violence, illness and lack of education.

“It’s just wonderful to have the town out and get great support from public works setting up the course,” Dr. Petit told News 8. “”I think we had 500 plus runners here today, so great turnout and much better than the monsoon we had in 2023.”

In the last 17 years the Petit Family Foundation has raised and awarded more than $7.5 million in grants to programs and projects across Connecticut. Dr. Petit said that this year’s focus would be on raising funds to fight Multiple Sclerosis.
