Leftover showers across southern Kansas will keep clouds in play which could impact afternoon temperatures farther south by a few degrees. Regardless, it will be a hot and humid day with a Heat Advisory remaining in effect through early Tuesday evening. Heat indices from 105-110 degrees will be common for many towns.

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - After a couple of days with very hot temperatures and high humidity, a cold front will move through into the overnight hours and drop the temperatures slightly for Wednesday. However, the humidity will remain very high, so heat index values will still be near 100 degrees Wednesday afternoon. Please continue to exercise caution if working outdoors.

Kansas judge blocks part of federal SAVE Plan, stopping student debt relief nationwide
A federal judge in Kansas has blocked the full implementation of a student debt relief program that was set to go into effect next month. U.S. District Court Judge Daniel Crabtree on Monday ordered a preliminary injunction blocking the U.S. Department of Education and secretary Miguel Cardona from implementing the portions of the Saving on a Valuable Education Plan that were set to take effect July 1. The injunction applies nationwide.
Four Kansas counties reporting tar spot in corn
A fungal disease that hampered corn production in 12 Kansas counties last year is back. Kansas State University plant pathologist Rodrigo Onofre said tar spot has already been found in four northeast Kansas counties – Doniphan, Atchison, Jefferson and Nemaha. Those four were among the 12 counties that reported tar spot in 2023, but the disease is showing up about a month earlier this time.
