PLAQUEMINE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Plaquemine Lock is considered a historic site in Louisiana, according to the City of Plaquemine, and is being renovated. A local nonprofit organization, Friends of the Lock, whose primary goal is to restore and protect the lock was founded in 2011 and started a blog to inform visitors and locals about the history of the structure.

Grosse Tete residents frustrated over drawbridge 'fix'
GROSSE TETE - Residents expressed their frustrations to Iberville Parish government officials about how the damaged draw bridge has been handled. During a meeting Tuesday evening, residents said the pedestrian ferry is opened for local foot traffic but passengers say that the hours are not practical. It runs from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Gas line broken during construction work on Bluebonnet Boulevard
BATON ROUGE - Crews are working a hazmat scene after a gas line was damaged due to construction work on Tuesday. The St. George Fire Department said crews were working the scene on Bluebonnet between Jefferson and Airline highways. There were no road closures, but officials asked residents to stay back and keep a safe perimeter.
