BESCH WITH SHEEP SHED UPDATE
With an annual report before the Huron City Commission a week ago Peggy Besch manager of the South Dakota State Fair gave an update on the planned new sheep complex. The former “H” shaped sheep barn was removed a couple years ago to make room for the Dakota Events Complex the DEX. Groundbreaking for “the Shed” will be held at the start of the 2024 South Dakota State Fair. Hills & Valley Riding Club holds 28th Annual Ranch Rodeo July 20 at Miles Nelson Arena
The 28th Annual Hills & Valley Riding Club Ranch Rodeo was held Saturday, July 20, at the Miles Nelson Arena in Sisseton. Teams competed in six events: Team Penning, Team Branding, Team Doctoring, Double Muggin’, Team Poles and Barrels, and Calf Sled Relay. Each team consissted of one youth 14 years or younger, one female, and two other members. There were ten teams competing this year for prize money, buckles and a fun time. Storm Chances Overnight, Warm and Muggy Conditions Continue
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - A few showers and storms are possible in places overnight, but many areas are expected to remain dry. Storms are expected to form in Minnesota and work their way south overnight. These storms will be losing strength and dissipating as they move into Iowa, but areas north of Highway 30 could see a few showers and a storm between 3AM and 6 AM. Any activity that makes it into eastern Iowa is expected to diminish shortly after daybreak Sunday, so impacts to weekend plans are expected to be minimal. Lows tonight drop into the mid to upper 60s.

Post 22 eliminated from State Legion Tournament
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) -After dropping its first game at the state tournament the Post 22 baseball team bounced back to defeat Yankton 9-2 to avoid elimination on Wednesday. Thursday afternoon the Hardhats hit the diamond for another elimination game against Harrisburg Gold. The Hardhats came up on the short end falling 15-5 in five innings.
Premium ewe sale sees internet sales increase
To meet the needs of emerging demand within the sheep industry for superior young ewe genetics available in smaller lot sizes, South Dakota Sheep Growers Association (SDSGA), has hosted a Premium Yearling Ewe Sale the last seven years. The sale was July 27th, 2024 at Magness Livestock Auction in Huron. This annual event is the signature yearling ewe sale in the region. For the first time, internet sales hit double digits, a total of ten lots were purchased through the cattleusa.com platform.
