Sandy, UT | Daybreak Records creates community connection through love of nostalgia: Vintage sounds of music playing on vinyl are coming back to life at Daybreak Records as the new shop is set to open Saturday. “We started off over in Daybreak. Hence the name,” said owner and music lover David Sherwood. “We did yard sales for about ten years and all my friends who collected records would come out and start selling with me. It turned into this event.” Sherwood felt the need to expand from yard sales in order to offer a larger, more curated collection. “We are kind of already established as a business,” he said. “We have about 800 active customers who are buying from us right now. They were all saying, ‘Dave we need a shop. You aren’t giving us enough records.’” Inside the store, customers will find bins of quality vintage, and rare records from artists like Pink Floyd, David Bowie and Elvis Presley. “For me, it’s that tangible thing you’re holding in your hand…”

Review: ‘Fiddler on Roof’ is a great match for Midway
A thatched roof shack with rustic barn doors stands in an idyllic field in Midway. If neighbors are concerned the house looks shabby and out-of-place abutting their new-build cul-de-sacs where farmland once was, don’t worry — it’s temporary. High Valley Arts Foundation erected this set at their Outdoor Summer Theatre, founded in 2011, for its nightly 8 p.m. “Fiddler on the Roof” performance, through July 20.

Drowsy Chaperone is No Accident at Sugar Factory
MIDALE — It’s always interesting as a theatre critic and patron to see how different shows evolve over the years. For example, I first saw The Drowsy Chaperone in 2006 when it was in previews on Broadway. I loved it and laughed hysterically throughout. That original production went on to win five Tony awards and be a huge critical and commercial success. Since then, I have seen it many times and the companies that staged the musical have continued to tweak it, changing the songs, tone and jokes. The Sugar Factory Playhouse‘s production had some of the biggest changes I’ve seen, but it maintained that hilarious heart and soul I fell in love with in 2006, and makes for a delightful night of theatre for any musical lover.

Filled with energetic and catchy songs, the musical explores themes of solidarity, friendship, the power of the press, and the relatable tale of the underdog standing up for what is right. Premiering this summer is a new walking path to the amphitheater from the upper parking areas.
