Oakland County woman, 2 sons killed when SUV rolls into creek, police say
ELBA TOWNSHIP, Mich. – An Oakland County woman and her two sons were killed over the weekend when their SUV crashed and rolled into a creek, police said. The crash happened at 8:43 p.m. Saturday, July 13, 2024, in the area of Lippincott and Lake Nepessing roads in Elba Township.
Detroit-area county to pay $7M to family of man killed while jailed for drunken driving
DETROIT (AP) — A Detroit-area county agreed to a $7 million settlement in the death of a man who was severely beaten by another man while in jail for a misdemeanor. Separately, a federal prosecutor announced Monday that the Wayne County jail has agreed to improve how it serves people with disabilities and mental health needs. “Wayne County has a long and troubled history of providing inadequate services to inmates who have disabilities,” U.S. Attorney Dawn Ison said. Thomas Carr, 53, died a year ago after suffering severe head injuries while serving a brief sentence for drunken driving. He was attacked in his cell by a man who was being held on domestic violence charges and had a history of mental health problems.
Hazel Park house fire leaves two dead
HAZEL PARK — Two women died from smoke inhalation in what officials say is Hazel Park’s first fatal fire in more than 10 years. Authorities received word of the fire around 5 a.m. Friday, July 12. A concerned citizen who was driving down Eight Mile Road noticed heavy smoke rising from the area of East Muir Avenue near Dequindre Road. The driver turned around, located the source and called 911 with the address of the home: 1561 E. Muir Ave.
'This is tragic': Pregnant woman, 2 others shot at Detroit gas station
DETROIT (FOX 2) - A triple shooting at a Detroit gas station Monday night left four people hurt, including a pregnant woman. Police believe the shooter, a man in his 60s, was in the midst of a mental health crisis when he entered the Sunoco on Gratiot and Van Dyke just before 9 p.m. Police said the man appeared agitated and was complaining about being followed before going to his vehicle and getting a gun.
