Big and bright, an adult spotted lanternfly is an insect that will grab most New Englanders’ attention. This exotic planthopper can grow to be 1 inch long and one-half inch wide. When sitting, a spotted lanternfly appears “dusky brown with black spots, but when it flies, you’ll see brown wings, red under wings and black and yellow bodies,” said Victoria Smith, Connecticut’s state entomologist. “It's quite a pretty insect.”

Summer Trade Program at Oliver Wolcott in August
TORRINGTON—A Summer Trade Program introducing students to trade school will be held at Oliver Wolcott Technical High School Aug. 12 to 16 from 8:30 a.m. to noon. It is for students entering seventh and eighth grade and will let them explore courses in hairdressing, carpentry, precision machine took, auto, collision repair, health tech, plumbing, heating, cooling, mechanical draft engineering technology, electrical and graphics. The program will be taught by OWTS shop instructors.
