Puppies at the Pump shows off service dogs in training Thursday at a gas station in Plymouth

It was Puppies at the Pump day at the Holiday Gas Station in Plymouth Thursday.

Helping Paws is a non-profit that trains service dogs for people with disabilities, veterans, and first responders with PTSD.

"For people with physical disabilities, these dogs are literally opening doors," says Alisa Golob with Helping Paws. "They can take a credit card off the ground and hand it to the cashier for our veterans. They're going into their apartments and turning on the lights. They will push them and wake them up from a bad dream."

The two breeds that are trained are Golden and Labrador Retrievers.

"Golden Retrievers and Labrador retrievers can exchange affection," she says. "They can move from their foster home trainer of two years to their person without a lot of problems.

It's not everyday you see a bunch of dogs hanging out at a gas station, but today isn't just another normal day.

"We're able to give that dog because all the people who help us train the dogs are volunteers," Golob explains. "So they keep the dog in their home for two and a half years and they hand it over to the person who's going to use it as their service dog."

Yes, they're cute to look at while you fill up. But these are puppies helping change and save lives.
