When her college career ended for the Idaho State women’s basketball team, Natalie Doma was the Big Sky Conference all-time leader in both points scored (2,296) and rebounds (1,174) − an incredible achievement.

Doma had already been inducted into the Idaho State Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008. But this past weekend at the Big Sky Conference “Kickoff Weekend” in Spokane, she was awarded another singular honor − being inducted into the Big Sky Hall of Fame.

“I got a Facebook message from Jon Kasper asking me to reach out to him,” she said. “I thought ‘who’s Jon Kasper? But I need to reach out to him.”

Kasper is the Big Sky Conference’s Senior Associate Commissioner.

“As soon as I called, he told me. I don’t know if I cried or what, but it was an overwhelming moment, just surreal,” Doma said. “You don’t expect these accolades as a college athlete, but to have it happen was pretty cool.”

Doma was recruited out of Canada by former Bengal head coach Jon Newlee.

Her impact on the program and the league was immediate being named the Big Sky Freshman of the Year for the 2004-05 season. She was also selected to the All-Big Sky Tournament team that year. Doma went on to earn that honor two more times and was the Big Sky Tournament MVP in 2007 when ISU punched its ticket to March Madness.

She was an All-Big Sky Conference first-team selection three times and was the league’s Player of the Year for the 2007-2008 campaign. Doma was also the Bengals’ MVP for three consecutive seasons, starting in the 2005-06 year.

Doma was named the Big Sky Conference Player of the Week 13 times. She’s top-10 all-time in 31 different categories for Idaho State, as well.

She played in both the NCAA and WNIT Tournaments as a Bengal. Her NCAA appearance was a memorable one, too. Doma scored 32 points at national power Stanford in a first-round NCAA Tournament loss on March 17, 2007.

After leaving Pocatello, she was on the preseason roster of the WNBA’s Seattle Storm. Doma and her family now live in Southern California where she works as an endodontic dental assistant.

She and her family will be returning to Pocatello on October 25 as part of the Golden Anniversary Celebration/Reunion. It marks the 50th season that women’s basketball has been a varsity sport at Idaho State.
