Kennedy walks it off to knock off back-to-back defending state champs, beats Johnston 8-7
Kennedy sophomore Ty Donels hits a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the seventh to stun Johnston in the class 4A state semifinal 8-7. The Cougars lead 7-1 going into the top of the seventh before the Dragons scored six runs to tie the game, but Kennedy manages to bounce back to defeat the back-to-back defending state champions.

Des Moines, IA (KICD) — Additional FEMA Funding is now available at several local counties already in the Presidential Disaster Area. The National Balloon Classic, in and above Indianola though Aug. 3, continues a legacy that brothers Joseph and Etienne Montgolfier launched in 1783 at Versailles with the first human-piloted balloon. (On an earlier flight, the co-pilots were a sheep, a rooster and a duck.)
Panther Volleyball at ISU Camp
The Panorama Panthers participated in a two day camp at Iowa State in the Cyclone gyms. While not directly officiated with Iowa State University, the two day volleyball camp on July 24 & 25 includes a day of drills and practice alongside a day of scrimmages. The Cyclone Volleyball camp website says, “This camp is designed to give teams a head start to the volleyball season. This is strictly a competition camp with competitive drills vs another team on Day 1 and a tournament format on Day 2. We will have a camp coach on each court to run drills, officiate, and provide limited feedback. Camp runs from 9am-5pm with a break for lunch.”

West Nile Has Been Found in Iowa Mosquitoes
The good news is that at the time of writing, no humans in Iowa have yet tested positive for the West Nile virus. Mosquitos on the other hand have been found containing the virus in central Iowa. According to KCRG, mosquitoes were trapped at a park in West Ames sometime in mid-July. The park where these mosquitoes were found is sprayed or fogged every Wednesday night. Some of these mosquitoes contained the West Nile virus.
