Applications also open for Master Gardener Program

COLUMBUS—The NC Cooperative Extension will hold a free seminar on small ruminant record-keeping on July 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Polk County Extension Office, 79 Carmel Lane. The livestock seminar will focus on animals such as sheep and goats.

Led by Dr. Andrew Weaving, the Cooperative Extension’s small ruminant specialist, the seminar aims to provide attendees with insights into the importance of record keeping, various methods of record keeping, traits to keep records on, and how to utilize records to enhance decision-making. The seminar presents a valuable opportunity for individuals looking to enhance their small ruminant management skills.

In addition to the seminar, the Co-Op Extension is also accepting applications for its 2024 Master Gardener Program until July 15. The class sessions are scheduled to commence on Tuesdays starting from August 6, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. A fee of $180 is applicable for the program, which includes the cost of the textbook and necessary supplies.

The Master Gardener Program offers comprehensive coverage of various topics, including plant propagation, soil and nutrition management, vegetable gardening, turf management, landscape design, insects and diseases, pesticides, woody ornamentals, tree fruits, tree pruning, and weeds and wildlife. This program is designed to equip participants with a broad spectrum of gardening skills and knowledge.

Those interested in registering for the seminar or seeking additional information about the programs are encouraged to contact Cassie Lemaster or Christa Snyder at (828) 894-8218 or visit the website at polk.ces.ncsu.edu for more details.
