    Prep sports recap for May 31, 2024

    PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — Elena Krause pitched a shutout and scored the only run of the game as Pontiac beat Metamora, 1-0, for the Class 3A softball sectional championship at Washington.

    Krause, a Stanford softball recruit, took a no-hitter into the sixth. Metamora eventually put three runners on base but did not score.

    Pontiac scored it’s run when Cadence Helms bunted Krause home from third base in the fourth inning. The Indians will face Lemont in the East Peoria super-sectional Monday with a trip at state on the line.

    Illini Bluffs has advanced to its fifth straight class 1A state softball title game. Cora Ellison hit a homer and pitched a five-hit shutout as the Tigers beat Trico, 3-0.

    IB plays Alwood in the 1A state championship game at the Louisville Slugger Complex in Peoria on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

    Troy Triad beat Notre Dame, 1-0, in the girls soccer class 2A state semifinals in Naperville on Friday. Kamryn Bohnenstiehl redirected a corner kick in the 72nd minute for the lone goal of the match.

    The Irish will play Burlington Central at 10 a.m. Saturday in the state third place game at North Central College.
