Fireworks will be lighting up the night sky in the next few days. So where will your nearest display be this year?

    Algonac

Fireworks will be set off in Algonac at 10 p.m. on Friday as part of the community's annual Pickeral Festival. People can watch the colorful display, presented by the Algonac Lion's Club, at Algonac Riverfront Park, located at 1130 St. Clair River Drive.

The rain date for these fireworks will be at 10 p.m. on Saturday.

    Lexington

The Village of Lexington will be lighting up the night sky at 9 p.m. on Friday with its Independance Day fireworks. People can watch the display from Tierney Park, located at 5451 Dallas St.

Lexington will then have a parade in its downtown at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

    Port Huron

Instead of a firework display, Port Huron will be having a drone light display on July 18 as part of Family Night during Blue Water Fest. This display will take place at dusk at Desmond Landing.

    Port Sanilac

The Village of Port Sanilac will have its Fourth of July firework display over Lake Huron at dusk on Saturday. People can view the fireworks from Harbor Park, located at 7376 Main St.

    St. Clair

Celebrate Independence Day in St. Clair with a firework display presented by American Fireworks. The display will take place at dusk on Thursday. People will be able to view the fireworks from Palmer Park, located on North Riverside Avenue.

For those choosing to view from Palmer Park, there will be parking available alongside Riverside Avenue or in the Riverview Plaza parking lot.

Safety tips for Fourth of July

It's important to remember ways to remain safe with the excitement the Fourth of July is bound to bring. The Port Huron Police Department put out a press release to not only remind the public of the city's firework ordinance, but also provide some safety tips.

    • Adhere to the city's fireworks ordinance to avoid fines and ensure community safety.
    • Always have an adult present when using fireworks and never allow young children to handle them.
    • Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose nearby in case of fire or other mishaps.
    • Light fireworks in clear, open areas away from buildings, vehicles and flammable materials on your property. Use of public spaces for fireworks is prohibited.
    • After fireworks completely burn out, douse them with plenty of water before disposing them in a metal trash can.
    • Never use fireworks while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
    • Consider your neighbors, pets and veterans who might be sensitive to loud noises.

The city of Port Huron's firework ordinance states that fireworks are permitted only between June 29 and July 5. Fireworks can only be lit until 11:45 p.m. on those days. Fireworks are only permitted on private property and cannot be set off from public property unless permission is obtained from the organization or owner.

Additionally, no person is permitted to light, discharge or use fireworks while under the influence of alcohol, a controlled substance or a combination of both.

A person found in violation could be responsible of a civil infraction of $1,000, with additional fees and possible jail time if there is damage to property.
