After only being open for a year, Huron Academic Endeavors has expanded its educational programming and moved to a new campus.

Effective this fall, the homeschool center will be expanding from a preschool and K-2 program to a preschool and K-12 program. Huron Academic Center had to move its campus to accommodate the program expansion and will now be located at 3071 Commerce Drive in Fort Gratiot. It was previously located inside the Harrison Center, 55 15th St., Port Huron.

With this expansion, the center will be able to offer more electives, student groups, extracurricular activities and more.

President Kelly Oldford said moving into the new location allow Huron Academic Endeavors to have a bigger footprint and to accommodate its student's needs. She said it feels good to have expanded so quickly since the center was established.

"It's so encouraging to know that we have people who want to come on board and see the value in this type of program," Oldford said.

Huron Academic Endeavors will have an open house at the new location at 10 a.m. on Monday and its Fall Kickoff Open House at 10 a.m. on Aug. 22. The school year for the homeschool center begins Sept. 3.

Currently, there are around 10 students enrolled at Huron Academic Endeavors. Oldford said she is expecting to see more registration at the upcoming open houses, especially now that the homeschool center can now take on older grades.

The new campus features six classroom spaces, two multipurpose rooms that can be used as gym and a library, a science lab, cafetorium, a parent lounge and a front lobby.

Huron Academic Endeavors will now be able to offer more elective classes in its new location. Oldford said the center will be launching its Creative Kids Initiative, which includes dance, creative writing, art classes, gym classes and more.

"For a lot of our elective classes, we wanted to have a fine arts focus," Oldford said.

Huron Academic Endeavors is a hybrid homeschool center. Students meet on Tuesdays and Thursday at the center for formal, in-person classes, and the rest of the week is directed by the family's at-home class schedule. Pre-K and kindergarten students meet for half days from 9 a.m. to noon while all other students have full days from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Students who wish to do independent study or meet with other students throughout the entire school week can now do so with the new campus location as well.

People interested in registering their child at Huron Academic Endeavors can do so at its website at www.huroncooperative.org . Tuition is on a monthly basis and is $100 for pre-K and kindergarten, $120 for elementary, $135 for middle school and $150 for high school. Tuition for the once-a-week pre-K camp is $37 per month.
