PORT JERVIS – A Port Jervis resident is on a mission to accomplish something she says has been on her mind for a while. New York State announces new “SUN Bucks” summer ebt benefit
New York State has announced a “SUN Bucks” summer benefit, which would provide $120 in EBT benefits to each eligible child. It is important to note that this program is only available for Monticello students whose family’s income is below the free/reduced lunch income guidelines. In the past, Monticello students had been eligible for similar programs, regardless of their family’s income, because of the district’s status as a CEP program. While the district is still a CEP program, the state changed its guidelines this year, and will only provide this benefit to families with incomes at or below the free/reduced lunch guidelines.

Warwick seeks state funding to revamp land use rules
The village of Warwick is seeking state funding to support its efforts to rewrite local zoning code. During the July 1 Warwick Village Board meeting, Mayor Michael Newhard shared that the village applied for the grant last year and was very close to receiving funding. He explained that the application is being resubmitted with more information, and he is hoping the village will be successful.
WV Rotary Installation is a FIRST! Two Presidents!
Last week Warwick Valley Rotary experienced a first. Two people were installed as Co-Presidents. However, these two people are husband and wife and that would be David and Patti Dempster. They also delighted the audience with their amazing musical talent with Patti singing “Let’s Give’em Something to Talk About (Bonnie Raitt’s hit) & Heat Wave while Daivd brought the heat and the beat on the drums. They met in the early 90’s, married in 1996 and they are still making great music together for themselves and Rotary! Even the storm that swept through on Wednesday evening did not deter the full house and everyone got home safe thanks to our dedicated DPW and Chief Radar and the Warwick Police Department. Congrats to the Dempsters’ and here’s to an amazing year for all those who benefit each year from the tireless work of the dedicated Rotarians.
Annual Goshen Historic Track, Harness Hall Museum weekend festivities start Friday
The annual Great American Weekend festivities will once again include the popular three-day harness racing meet at Goshen Historic Track. Gates open at 11 a.m. and action kicks off at 1 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, culminating Sunday evening with the induction of the newest members to the Harness Racing Hall of Fame at the adjacent museum.
