PORT ST. LUCIE − A 66-year-old man who died last week after a vehicle crash has been identified as Richard Wallis, of Jensen Beach, a police spokesperson said Monday.

Police about 11 a.m. Friday went to the 1800 block of Southeast Westmoreland Boulevard regarding a crash. The location is west of U.S. 1 and south of Southeast Port St. Lucie Boulevard.

Investigators determined a 2019 Nissan sedan traveled west on Southeast Westmoreland Boulevard. The vehicle left the roadway, striking a concrete power pole.

The driver, identified as Wallis, was taken to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce where he died, police stated.

“We believe alcohol was a potential factor,” Sgt. Dominick Mesiti, police spokesperson, said Monday.

No passengers were in the vehicle, police said.

No other information was immediately available.
