    Teen facing charges for negligent manslaughter in Portales

    PORTALES, N.M. (KRQE) – The Portales Police Department charged a teen with negligent manslaughter on Sunday. The department responded to a call about a gunshot victim on South Ave. E just before 10:30 p.m.

    They found 18-year-old Demariay Singleton inside a home, bleeding from his head. He was taken to the hospital. Police said adults and juveniles told them it was an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound. Portales police investigated the shooting and charged a 16-year-old with negligent manslaughter, tampering with evidence, and unlawful possession of a firearm.
