PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — In the coming years, a Southeast Portland park will hold a new splash pad that residents can use to keep cool during the summer months.

Portland Parks and Recreation announced on Tuesday that it would install a splash pad at Kenilworth Park by 2028 or 2029.

The agency previously saved $1 million for the project, and the city’s Commissioner of Culture & Livability Dan Ryan recently secured an additional $700,00 in development fees.

Kenilworth Park is located at Southeast 34th Avenue and Holgate Boulevard. PP&R already offers splash pads at some nearby parks including Colonel Summers, Errol Heights and Essex, but the latest addition will help city leaders in their efforts to improve quality of life throughout the metro.

According to the parks department, the outreach and community engagement process for the new splash pad is slated for late 2025.

“Splash pads in parks across Portland have proven to be popular cooling and water play spots for people of all ages and of various abilities,” Commissioner Ryan said in a statement. “You don’t need to be able to swim to enjoy them, and they are on from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily all the way through Labor Day!”

The city’s interactive fountains are also open for the season.
