Man dies from bike fall in Southwest Portland

A bicyclist has died of injuries sustained in a fall in the Multnomah Neighborhood.

According to the Portland Police Bureau, the victim is Gad Alon, 74. Emergency medical services were called to the fall at Southwest Capitol Highway and Southwest Florida Street at 6:50 a.m. Saturday, July 6. Police were not called because there was no indication of a crime or a crash involving anyone else.

Police said Alon died in a hospital on July 17, 11 days after the fall. The cause and manner of death will be determined by the medical examiner. The death was the 35th traffic related fatality for 2024 in the city of Portland.
