Scoot Henderson Makes Pivotal Business Decision

    By Lance Roberson,

After a disappointing rookie season, Scoot Henderson seeks damage control. The Portland Trail Blazers' 2023 third-overall draft pick apparently needs new representation. Henderson's rookie season saw the Portland prospect average 14 points on abysmal efficiency regarding shooting splits and assists to turnover ratio.

In the second year of his NBA career, Henderson resorted to Klutch Sports, with Rich Paul as his representative. Leading up to the 2023 NBA Draft, experts projected Henderson as high as a second pick.

However, Henderson's shortcomings were magnified following a surprisingly solid rookie campaign from Charlotte Hornets rookie Brandon Miller.

Henderson averaged a .480 true shooting mark and a 44 effective field goal percentage, both 10 percent below the league average. Furthermore, the struggling rookie ranked last on Portland's roster (players with at least 1000 minutes) with a -13.9 plus-minus per 100 possessions.

The G League Ignite standout (now the defunct G League Ignite) failed to make a mark during the season.

Although you can't expect rookies to figure out their careers in less than a season, the aforementioned stats didn't help the rookie's case. Henderson's on-court production seldom displayed why experts went out of their way to project him worthy of such a high pick.

However, Henderson's rookie campaign had glimmers of greatness. On separate occasions, Henderson recorded 15 assists and 33 points.

Signing to Klutch Sports is typically a maneuver for a player seeking a grand deal. However, reports have yet to allude to why Henderson made such a business decision early in his career.
