    Police investigating unknown death, pedestrian fatality

    Police are investigation two deaths in Portland, including one where the body is so decomposed they could not immediately tell if it was a man or woman.

    That investigation began at 12:58 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25, when North Precinct officers responded to a call of a body found around the 10700 block of Northeast Fremont Street. Whenofficers arrived at the scene, they found a person who was deceased.

    “Due to the state of remains, it is unknown if the person found was a man or a woman,” PPB said when announcing the investigation.

    Portland Police Bureau Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to investigate. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Det.     The identity of the victim will be released after the Medical Examiner has confirmed the cause of death and after family members have been notified.

    Before that, at 11:11 p.m. on Aug. 24, East Precinct officers responded to reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Southeast 162nd Avenue and Southeast Stark Street. Officers arrived to find that the pedestrian died at the scene and the driver had fled the area.

    The Portland Police Bureau Major Crash Team responded to the scene to investigate. Streets in the area were closed for several hours.
