KENNEBUNKPORT, Maine — Mark Vaughan has been appointed Kennebunkport’s new deputy police chief.

Vaughan was officially sworn in during a ceremony on Monday, Aug. 5, attended by his family and colleagues.

Vaughan began his career as a reserve officer nearly two decades ago, becoming a full-time officer in 2006. In 2013, he was promoted to senior sergeant, a role he has held for the past 11 years.

"Mark Vaughan has consistently shown his dedication to our department and the Kennebunkport community," said Police Chief Chris Simeoni . "His experience and leadership over the past 17 years make him the ideal candidate to step into this important role, where he will continue to lead and make key decisions for our department."

Vaughan succeeds Kurt Moses, who retired this year after a 34-year career with the Kennebunkport Police Department . Moses served in various capacities, including as a reserve officer, patrol officer, detective, and for the past 22 years, as deputy chief.

Vaughan said he is looking forward to serving as the town's deputy police chief.

"Starting as a full-time officer shortly after college, I have been fortunate to meet and work alongside many wonderful people in Kennebunkport," Vaughan said. "I owe much of my growth as an officer to the guidance of my supervisors and the camaraderie of my fellow officers. I am eager to embark on this next chapter in my law enforcement career."
