According to initial investigations, a white commercial van traveling northbound lost control on the wet pavement, resulting in a rollover in the median. The van, driven by a 39-year-old Brockton, Massachusetts, man, scattered debris, including roofing nails, construction equipment, and power tools onto the southbound lanes one through three.

A white Honda traveling southbound struck the debris, which disabled the vehicle and deployed its airbags, causing minor injuries to the female driver.

Cedillo Merchan was not injured in the crash. However, three of the four male passengers in the van, who were not wearing seatbelts, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital in New Hampshire.

Police said the accident remains under investigation, but speed and erratic operation appear to be factors in the crash.

Two southbound lanes and a northbound lane were shut down temporarily due to the crash. All lanes have since been reopened.
