POST FALLS, Idaho - A Kootenai County Sheriff detective was able to avoid serious injury when a wanted suspect hit him with a car Thursday afternoon.

The Sheriff's Office said Emanuel V. Zavala hit the detective and his vehicle in a gas station parking lot in Post Falls around 12:45 p.m. Zavala had multiple warrants out for failing to register as a sex offender.

The detective was able to jump out of the way, avoiding serious injury.

The Sheriff's Office chased Zavala to a home on 3rd Avenue near Spokane Street.

Zavala ran inside the home, refusing to leave. Multiple police agencies came to help, including the SWAT team. Zavala ended up leaving the home and surrendering to police.

Zavala was arrested and booked into jail for aggravated battery, felony eluding, multiple sex offender registry violation warrants, and probation violations.

The detective who was hit was cleared by a medical team with minor leg injuries.
