New Mary McLeod Bethune Exhibit Opens Today in Washington D.C.
The Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) will open a new illuminating exhibition, “Forces for Change: Mary McLeod Bethune and Black Women’s Activism,” Friday, July 19. The 640-square-foot exhibition explores the legacy of Mary McLeod Bethune and the National Council of Negro Women, as well as the strategies Black women have used to enact change through education, creativity and organizing. The exhibition is a permanent and dynamic space highlighting new stories relating to Black women activists through 35 objects, 75 images and two digital-media pieces. This year I participated in the National Golf Day in Washington D.C., as First Green was hosting a field trip as part of the program. I indirectly became involved with the First Green at LedgeRock GC, where the nationally recognized kids’ golf instructor, Andy Miller, taught course etiquette and maintenance as part of his golf camps. He wanted the kids to learn at a young age about what goes into course maintenance and why etiquette is so important.

Man injured after shooting near Silver Spring 7-Eleven
SILVER SPRING, Md. (7News) — A man is injured after a shooting near a 7-Eleven in Silver Spring Friday evening, according to Montgomery County police officials. Officers responded to the 9200 block of New Hampshire Avenue around 5:03 p.m. where they found a man who was shot in his leg.
AdMo Vibe concert series lineup announced
WASHINGTON — AdMo Vibe is back in D.C.'s Kalorama Park this summer. The Adams Morgan Partnership BID announced the lineup for the concert series on Friday. The concerts will be held Wednesdays beginning on July 31 through Aug. 21. Rain date if needed is Aug. 28. Local acts will be playing a variety of genres including pop, folk, jazz, bluegrass and more.
