Working coal miner’s rights free town hall August 15
OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – Cases of Black Lung Disease, especially in younger miners are currently skyrocketing. They are contracting more severe forms of the disease earlier in their mining career. That’s why New River Health Association and Cabin Creek and Valley Health are holding a town hall on Thursday, August 15 at New River Convention Center so the miners can learn their rights.
Area ag-related businesses eligible for SBA drought disaster loans
WASHINGTON, DC (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The U.S. Small Business Administration has announced federal Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs) are available in Virginia for small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, small businesses engaged in aquaculture, and most private nonprofit organizations with economic losses due to drought that began on July 16. The specific primary counties, along with the adjacent localities, makes our entire Charlottesville area eligible. These loans are not available to the actual farmer or rancher, but are for aquacultural producers and nursery operators.

CASPER, Wyo. — A Virginia man was charged with numerous offenses in Yellowstone National Park last weekend. According to federal court records, Alan Bowling, born in 1967, pleaded not guilty in federal court in Mammoth on Monday and will appear in federal court in Cheyenne on Tuesday. He is charged with theft of a tow truck, drunk driving, property destruction and a handful of other misdemeanors, collectively punishable by up to four and a half years in prison.

Big Lots Closing 13 Stores In MD And VA
(Bowie, MD) — More than a dozen Big Lots stores in the DMV are closing as part of a belt-tightening move. The retailer says it needs to trim its underperforming stores to shore up its balance sheet. In the DC area, Big Lots locations in Bowie, Laurel and Lexington Park are on the chopping block in Maryland and stores in Manassas, Woodbridge and Fredericksburg are facing closure in Virginia.
