A young man and woman and a teenage boy were behind bars Wednesday in connection with the death of a Poway resident found mortally wounded by gunfire last spring in a crashed vehicle near Chollas Reservoir, authorities said.

Arrested Tuesday for allegedly taking part in the slaying of 25-year-old Andres Dominguez were Brayan Morales, 18, and Arlene Zaragoza, 19, according to the San Diego Police Department.

A 16-year-old suspect was already in custody in juvenile hall when he was re-arrested in connection with the homicide, SDPD Lt. Steve Shebloski said. The boy’s name was withheld because he is a minor.

Shortly before 11 p.m. on March 28, patrol officers responding to a report of a traffic accident at Michael and 60th streets in Oak Park found Dominguez suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body in a vehicle that had veered off the roadway and crashed into a fence, Shebloski said.

Paramedics took the victim to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

“Over the past several months, homicide detectives have continued to investigate this case,” Shebloski said. “During the course of their investigation, they were able to determine the victim was shot and killed during a failed robbery attempt.”

Investigators believe that Dominguez drove off after being wounded and lost control of his vehicle a short distance away, according to police.

All three suspects have been booked on suspicion of murder and attempted robbery, the lieutenant said.
